Rang Panchami or Ranga Panchami is celebrated 5 days after the colorful festival Holi. People celebrate this festival by throwing the Gulal and splashing the colorful water balloons. The word Rang means Color and Panchami means the fifth day. It is also said that in many parts of the country, Holi is celebrated on Rang Panchami. In Maharashtra, it is celebrated as ‘Shimgo’ or ‘Shimga’ and is characterized by the traditional Palkhi Dance. Mainly in the fishing community, it is observed that this festival involves singing and dancing. The festival culminates the festivities of Holi in the temples of Mathura and Vrindavan.

Devotees of this festival play with colors on this day. This is a popular festival in the states of Maharastra, Madhya Pradesh, and other parts of North India. People celebrate this festival with lots of colors, fun, and frolic much like Holi. As per the legends, it is believed that Holika Dahan or the fire which is lit during Holi creates a pure aura in the surroundings and fills the atmosphere with tremendous positivity.
There is another perspective to the celebration of Holi. The main objective to celebrate this day is to activate the Panch Tatva or the five elements that build up the earth. The five elements of the earth are earth, light, water, sky, and wind. It is also said that the human body contains all these five elements. The festival of Rang Panchami evokes these five elements that help to restore balance in our lives.

Hindu Scriptures state that this festival is symbolic of victory over Rajasi gun and Tamasic guns. Also, these were the barriers to spiritual advancement. Moreover, people mark the day by playing with colors with friends and families. Hindu devotees also worship Lord Krishna and Radha on this day. They also perform puja rituals for the divine union between Lord Krishna and Radha.
